Default File assosciation problem.

Hai friends,
One of my friend here, messed with his laptop running windows 7 homebasic and now, when he tried to open any file, it tries to open with windows media player.
This same problem was faced once, with adobe reader. i.e., all files tried to open with adobe reader, reinstalling adobe reader fixed the problem.
But what to do in the WMP case? Any help.

Regards.

Just right click on file.
Select open with
select choose program

select program from list with which you want to open file.
Check the box saying--always open this file with selected program. And ok.

and if it is due to corrupted registry then download below . It will fix .

For video files, right click > Open with > VLC media player (or any player of your choice)

This will help if you want to open different files in different programs other than default program. You can open movie in VLC, mp3 in Winamp or Jetaudio etc as per your choice.

Or open any media player of your choice and use the open button and choose the file of your choice as per location.
