Default Disabling how?

Hi Guys,

I have got Avast Free Antivirus(6.0.1203). I want to prevent some of the applications on my computer from using my internet connection for their updates and for all other purposes. How to disable them from doing so in Avast Free Antivirus(6.0.1203) as per Application’s Names? May I enable again such disabled softwares whenever necessary?

Yeah, turning the update from with in the application is the best and most optimal way.
Or else, Comodo Firewall would be best suited.

You are right. I know that before. But some softwares have got many features that use internet automatically for using their features. So, I do not know them all to stop working online.

this is the job of a firewall not antivirus. Unless the antivirus has afirewall builtin with it.
Many firewall would do the job. I used to use the ancient kerio firewall, but it started giving me compatibility errors.

Thumbs up Re: Disabling how?

Block them access to their servers by editing your hosts.txt file. Hope you know it.
Go to %SystemDrive%\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open the hosts.txt file in notepad.

type in 127.0.0.1 domainname.tld

where domain name will be of the software you are using. You might have to restart your computer for things to take effect. Although I cannot guarantee success, it might just work if you know the domain name. Also I don't know whether it works only for web browsers.
