Question Windows 7 recovery disk queries ??


Can i reinstall OS if the hard disk fails or can i install the OS with that recovery disk on any other system ???

The recovery disk contains the pre installed factory image of the hardware including the OS/Drivers/Softwares so it might not be compatible with different hardware might not work also as personally i never tried it
U can install the recovery disk on the same hardware as many times u want but it will erase all ur data

You can only use that recovery disk on that particular system.

This means in case where the system is not able to boot then first i should backup all my data using some bootable distro and then only should use recovery otherwise the data will be gone.

Yeah, you are exactly right. Use bootable disks like, UBCD or Hiren's disk to recover data, then use recovery disk to reset the Windows OS.
You can also use that recovery disk to first scan drive for errors, or repair corrupt bootloader, beside re-imaging the OS, but you can't recover DATA from that disk, if you havn't taken any backup's previously.
