Default Windows98 and XP

Anyone please help me with with this
I use both Windows98 and WindowsXP Media Center Edition 2005 on my pc with 98 on C drive and XP on D. Whenever i get a problem with 98 I want to install XP also. I tried copying the boot.ini file in C but it doest help. Please help me to install 98 without installing XP.

no need to do that....run xp set up...at the setup screen press R to go to recovery console...the press C...
the screen will ask for the windows installation u want to log on...select ur xp instalation...
enter administrator password...
on the command prompt...fixboot..Enter...press y when it asks for confirmation...
then run ....map...it will give the drive letters of all drives...is ur cdron drive letter is say f:..then enter
copy f:\i386\ntlsr c:\
copy f:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
overwrite if there are any exsiting files...
make sure u have copied old boot.ini file...by type c:\boot.ini....

reboot ur pc from hard drive and u should be running...
