Have you tried silent treatment (not using for many days)??? Just kidding...

Other things to try...
1. Registry cleaning - one may not suffice - try a few reputed ones like ccleaner, tune up, etc.
2. Isolate if USB is problem - see if problem persists at same or lower frequency if USB is not used. Then, also see if problem intensifies on frequent USB usage...
3. Check if RAM is problem - if you have two RAM pieces, try one at a time and at different slots to see if RAM or RAM slot has problem.
4. Check any problem in PSU.
5. See if working in Linux solves problem - try to work with either Live DVD of Linux distro or if possible install Linux in a new partition and see if you get problems when working with it.
6. Any recent software installed that could have caused problem? Unlikely since you are getting it after reinstall also...
7. Run a HijackThis scan and look for suspicious entries...

Will think and post if I get other ideas...

Wink Re: explorer.exe giving hard time

This is a possible solution Go to My computer

Go to Tools>Folder Options>View.

Uncheck "Launch folder windows in a seperate process".

Reboot and see if this takes care of your problem.

OR

This may give you some breathing space but is probably not the final fix

First try getting a KNOWN GOOD copy of explorer.exe from another / mates computer

boot your to safe mode...find your copy(ies) and RENAME IT/them

copy the known good version in place

try and see what happens...if it works and improves then reboot and DELETE the offending renamed ones

Then get some different defense software if you feel what you have is not up to speed....I find Avast over active but effective and NOD32 as good as any I have tried

Good Luck

Baudy!

ditch explorer.
use a different shell(like litestep, blackbox) and file manager(like total commander, xplorer2)

is it happening with a differernt usb drive?

run ccleaner, it might help

if problem persists even after format, your other drives are most likely infected by virus. spreading to primary partition when you open it.

1. Regarding USB frequency - I am trying to say that you should try to use the system without using anything on USB and see if problem repeats just like usual or problem comes less. Similarly, you should try to use pendrive again and again and see if the problem comes more.
2. You cannot say that "Working in Linux will obviously solve problem.." If the problem is hardware related, it can occur in Linux too. If you find that the problem occurs in linux also, you can be quite sure the problem is in hardware and not software...
3. Can you check if MS VS is the source of the problem? (a) does the problem come even when you dont run VS, and (b) does the problem arise frequently whenever you try to run VS?

Well if its still there after a windows reinstall....then u probably have some stuff on the other drives which are getting loaded in the boot up process or u have a faulty Hardware .Can u try following 3 things and get back with the results:

1. Try safe mode and see if u still have the issue
2. Run http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s...rnals/bb963902
save it and post it here
2. Go to run->eventvwr.Save application and system logs and post them here.

Also can u try updating your USB drivers?

I doubt if its a RAM problem... use inbuilt RAM checker in dell laptop to verify that your RAM is fine
