Re: Strange rediff usernames in my system!
I think, this is a major virus/hack issue. You should immediately install another XP/7 on other partition, and format the original OS drive after backing up all data from the new OS.
This may sound extreme solution, but why take chances!
Btw, still not understand why title of this thread says, "rediff usernames"!

Re: Strange rediff usernames in my system!
It means when i want to give my username in the username field, two other user names pop up (bjackson and richiert) in the username field.

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
Its a virus. Do a full scan and see if that helps and if it doesn't then do a full reinstall of OS.

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
so you mean only paid A/V are full version & the free ones (like Avira, Avast) are crap product?
yes AVG is degrading. system heavy but still it got good detection. you speak more like Symantec's PM.

+1. I'd say free ones are better than paid ones, at least for those who aren't dumb enough. Paid ones don't offer much better functionality.

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
Reason I hate paid ones, they are typical bloatware. Take so much resource. And start up is a PITA.

This is again to build another A/v fighting thread..
Cool guys... if you r satisfied with the performance of your a/v, then it doesn't matter what others thinking
I will go for payed Bitdefender / Kaspersky

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
The virus must have crept very deep. Try system restore to a very old date when these werent there.
But format will fix it

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
Just Backup your Important DATA >> Format the whole PC >> Reinstall OS >> Install Kaspersky/Bit defender with Updated Definition >> Copy the Backup data back to your PC
I am using Kaspersky from past 2 years and chances are very very rare that any virus/malware will crept into your PC when the protection is smoothly running
In case you don't want to Format your PC, make use of Kaspersky Rescue Disk: Download Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 - It will run and remove all possible malwares before Windows has even started

backup your system files to another drive. format PC. reinstall OS & now install any A/V (paid, free doesn't matter) from a clean source like Digit DVD. update it & scan whole system. also if you can (& for your own safety) do a complete scan with Emsisoft Antimalware.
BTW what firewall are you using. windows default or 3rd party?

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
avast detected a file named hiberfil.sys affected by a trojan. But can't delete the hiberfil file. Is that the reason?

Re: Strange diff usernames in my system!
disable hibernation. the file should disappear.
what happened is, your system got virus. you enable hibernation. so current state of your system got saved with the virus in that file.
