Need a powerful (Go easy) Firewall
Hi,
Been currently using Avira free + comodo Firewall with Defense+ disabled and Spybot S&D beta !!
Now i am worried whether i am enough with my firewall cause i have turned Defense+ -> DISABLED
The reason i have done so is that my Dad is an average user and he feels really annoying with those learning questions
Is there any other Firewall which is powerfull and also Does not not much of user input ?? I Do banking online !

Re: Need a powerful (Go easy) Firewall
A simple solution, enable the Defense+ when needed. See the preferences there might be options for Firewall notifications.
For a recommendation, you might wanna go for ZoneAlarm.

Re: Need Security Advice !
One thing you must know is that no computer is 100% secure, so you are not. But, I think you are using the best free combination you can get in security. I have been using it for years and found no problem.
Comodo is said to be one of the best firewall in world and Avira AntiVir needs no introduction. Just remember to use latest operating system (I think you are using Windows) and to keep your system updated for maximum protection.
Also, try Linux.

Re: Need Security Advice !
Yup, no AV can give you 100% security. User themselves need to be aware. Like downloading softwares from here and there, visiting adult sites, not verifying the URL's they are visiting etc. etc. lots.

Re: Need Security Advice !
I'd suggest KIS if you want to go for paid. Or if you want to stay on free, then you are using the best combination IMHO.

Re: Need Security Advice !
No you asked for AV suggestion, and I personally recommend KIS, as I'm using it from 3 years and I'm quite satisfied. Though I don't use Windows in my daily life.
And I said, that if you want something paid solution I'd recommend KIS otherwise if you want free solution, then you are using the same what I'd have suggested.

Re: Need Security Advice !
If you do banking online then please turn on Defence+ when you use that and use a combination of Virtual and real keyboard to be more safe for typing account details.
Nothing is completely safe you have to keep an eye on what you are doing. See when your father is using computer teach him how to turn off Defence+ and then tell him to turn it on As soon as he has used the computer. I guess your father can understand that.

- No one would want to hack you. Even if your computer is affected by a virus, don't worry, keylogger/any such viruses are very rare.
- I do banking online with only avast/microsoft security essentials. No firewall stuff, not needed on my side. But as I said before you can go for Paid but try ZoneAlarm before that.
- Same as 1.

This!
This is what you should do, if your work is not dependent on OS (which seems like).

Myth!
Even if his credentials might not be used for something else, his computer can be used as zombie (part of botnet) or used to commit some cybercrime.

Re: Need Security Advice !
^Botnets and hacking into someone's account personally is different. Botnet doesn't steal information from someone's account rather they're used for IRC Flooding/DDOSing a site (mostly). But they sure do slow down the bandwidth.
Cyber crime..Well out billions of people on the earth, a hacker sure will choose his. It matters really, a person should monitor his running processes constantly, like I do. I usually delete suspicious processes and keep a look at netstat -a.

Seems you didn't get my point. My point was, don't think that nobody will ever try to hack your computer just because you don't have any confidential / critical data. Its always good for a hacker/cracker to have 1 more computer handy for his/her botnet / crime activities!

Re: Need Security Advice !
I didn't finish the post, re-read it. I'm not saying walk naked on the street, be secure but just don't be crazy about it by installing tonnes of stuff like firewall, internet antivirus, real time antivirus, anti-malware and at last a full featured bloatware anti-virus. A full featured paid anti-virus is just fine.
Even I don't keep myself nude, Microsoft Security Essentials (free) works fine for me. The security layer doubles with - constantly monitoring running processes, services and netstat (-a). Read last year's June issue's editor page.
Chances of someone getting hacked even for the purposes you mentioned is well 1 in a million.
I don't mean to argue, just some flat facts .
But if you take the case of a super noob with no experience with the cyber world well then this argument serves just the opposite.

Do you think there is only 1 hacker hacking only 1 person in whole lifetime?
There are thousands of hackers hacking thousands of computers every minute. Now tell what are the chances you are talking about.

Neither do I. I think I know just enough security. And I have already expressed my opinions. If you think you are offended, I am sorry.

With that specifically in mind. There are thousands of hackers and the population of people using internet is billions! Divide both of them and you'll get a rough stat . My stat was made up on the spot, lol. But, literally I've not even met anyone who has ever been hacked.

No need to apologize dude. I'm not offended. Argument was the harsh word for this, I guess.

Re: Need Security Advice !
^You mean personally? Wow! The internet is full of these cases though. But even if someone wants to hack a computer. He wouldn't hack your computer, it will be just useless unless he's aware of your real life existence and what you do online (allaccountininternetpasswords.txt).
