soucre code analyzers guidance

Hey frndz i need help. As a part of our semester exam we have to submit a mini project and my group member selected the topic source code scanner,now they are gone home and i am stuck('coz i don't have any idea about it). So please if you people can help me with any tutorial links or something like that

What type of analyze(scan) you want to perform??

Define the points that you are trying to achieve.

I only have following ideas:
scanning of source code for any program which can be any language like c/c++/java or it can even be HTML.

and if there is any bad structure or any virus signatures in the source code then it should be able to recognize it.

and if it suppose to do something else then please tell me 'coz i already told i don't have much idea about it.

did you study compilers ??

detecting "virus signature" ??
i think that should be best left to AV program. there are infinite ways to code virus

yes we have studied compilers but only the phases of compiler nothing about "How to detect virus signatures". :-/
Anyway I'll call back my team and we'll discuss the plan again. Meanwhile if you guys can help me with any kind of tutorial links then you are most welcome
