Hi Folks,

As i am novice in Linux OS, so i am intended to learn it through digit.

My query is, what is optimum size should i give for the Ubuntu 10.10 OS with a new drive and how secure is browsing the web in ubuntu Linux.

Would anybody suggest me in this regard

I have used ubuntu and fedora. I am newbie at linux butas per my experience ubuntu is definitely better than fedora. U can go for a 10gb partion as ubuntu will get installed taking only about 2.7gbs or so and it will automatically take all the drivers itself with many apps. Do a full install. Also, keep windows always handy. If u are using vista be sure to go thru blogs as of how to save vista and install linux at the same time. Its really a mess. I have installed win7 winXp and ubuntu at the same time on my pc with no hassles. But when i tried it on my friends vista...It was a massarce. God linux saved me then with its liveboot cds. Keep experimenting but always have a backup working OS for online troubleshooting.

just for learning 10GB is enough for ubuntu.
if u r not installing too many applications then below config is good

/ ->6 GB
/boot -> 200 MB
swap ->3.8 GB

any Linux is safe for browsing. just don't click on suspicious links

10-15 GB hdd should be enough

if u want fully loaded os i prefer sabayon 5.4

I'll simply suggest you to install Ubuntu using Wubi and give it a space of around 11GB.

For a proper install, I'll sugges:

7GB for /
7GB for /home
your RAM size for swap.

@buddyram: I would suggest a 10gb partition for ubuntu and a swap partition as much as your 10-15% more than your ram(It will be used for suspend and hibernate).
As for browsing it is as safe as it is on any other OS(only advantage is that malwares are mostly written for windows which will not execute on linux)

@ico: i would not suggest any one a wubi install. If you reinstall your Windows OS(or it becomes unbootable) you will lose all your data inside the Wubi installation of Ubuntu.
