Antivirus Software.

Hi friends,
Microsoft claims that their "security essentials software" is a replacement to antivirus software. if I buy Windows 7, I'll get security essential for free download. So is it ok If I rely on that and not invest in other commercial antivirus softwares?
Any pros and cons?

yes, MS SE is a good antivirus. just the scanning speed is slow. no other point that can be seen as bad. go for it. or try Avast Free Antivirus. detection is lower than MS SE but the scanning speed is good & offers good protection.

MS SE version 2.0 FINAL was released last week. Which now has more features and better options to configure. SCAN ENGINE in completely new in this version! (as per MS).

Got it installed automatically yesterday through windows update.

So, u can buy win7 and rely on MS SE bro.

I would recommend to use Avira AntiVir Free edition anyway.

You can use MS Essentials from XP too but Avira free is one of good free AV out there

from my experience, avast fails to catch many trojans nowadays. have to rely on Emsisoft antimalware.
