Which anti-virus software are you using? Anti-viruses seem to interfere with Chrome's operations sometimes. Try adding it to the trusted list in your anti-virus. Also add it to Windows Firewall exception and then report back.

Even if you have un-installed the app, the preferences might be stayed on.Go to

Preferences->under the hood-> and select "Restore to Defaults"

I don't know if it works, but just try it.

i faced same problem on my 2nd system running XP. when you open it shows connecting only but never connects but open a new tab & try search something, it doesn't searches. its like being static.

Solution: Reinstall Win7 or switch to Opera.

Try cleaning up things with CCleaner. Then download the Google Chrome dev build and install it. (not the normal one)

Or switch to Opera. Better than Chrome only on Windows 7 imho.

arre problem is not with firewall. if you turn PC on while Chrome was running (illegal shutdown) theres chance you'll end up with a bad Chrome.
