Age of Empires 3 refuses to run after update

I just bought a copy of AOE III.

It installed fine and was running well, bus as soon as I upgraded to v1.3, it refuses to start up anymore and gives me a "Insert Disk 1" message.
I followed all the instructions on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/228985
but no luck.

The copy is totally genuine. It was packaged in Apr 2010.

My config: Win XP SP3, AMD Phenom + 2 GB RAM.

PS: Its the E-xpress games/ ubisoft pack. Could that be the issue? [http://theangrypixel.com/blog/2010/0...or-april-2010]

Yup. Tried a few others, all fine.

Wait actually the AVP demo was a bit like this. I think I had the same crashes for that as well.

one definitely feels cheated and disgusted after purchasing genuine stuff and still confronting such issues!!
