Default Change of laptop os


can i remove my laptops original OEM OS vista home basic and install a win 7 version.i have a compaq v 3242 au

Yes you can....But do you get the Win 7 upgrade DVD from Compaq?? If not it'll void your warranty. See compaq's site for more details. And wait for other member to clear that even more.

Hmm I don't think that would void warranty, since on request they install alternate OS like XP, Win 7, which is quite common here and that should be any problem for warranty.

Dual booting is a good option. Why you want to remove vista when Xp or 7 can run well in dual boot ?

Hi.will dual boot be possible or not as suggetsed by celdweler.also a frank question-are pirated version installs succesful fully or not or do they not perform fully.i ve heard vista home basic is a pain to remove . im confused.what shud i do.please advise

Dual boot is possible. you can dual boot windows 7 by making a separate empty partition and choosing it to install win7. They work well in dual boot . However you may have some issues regarding the Drive letters in both OS i.e the partiton hierarchy on Hdd .

Yes, pirated ones are installed and work successfully . No doubts abt that .Well if you want to remove Vista Home , just boot via Windows 7 DVD and open the installer and it will show you a list of your partitions and let you choose. Choose C:\ where vista resides and format it using the installer and choose it to install windows7 .
