Default partition disappeared

hi
i have window xp sp2 pro with 500 GB hard disk.i just encountered a bsod of 0x00000024 with sfsync02.sys during installation of a software.after that i am unable to boot into window, loading window freezes and restarts.safe mode doesn't work.recovery console doesn't find any window installation (as i gets directly to c prompt without asking anything and eroor of fixboot cannot find the system drive).

when using boot disk i can see and browse all the partitions,
but using a second HD as master shows a single partition 128 GB that is unformatted.
using recovery softwares, some shows identifies HD total capacity of 128 GB.
help me here.

Default Re: partition disappeared

Bad news This stop error means that your ntfs file system is corrupt (damage in the file system, bad hard drive data, corrupt SCSI or IDE drivers or a corrupt ntfs.sys file).

There are two ways,

1, If you still can access Windows, try to disable any backup programs, virus scanning programs or disk defragmenter tools. Try also to run a hardware diagnostics tool to detect any errors your hard drive might have. And run chkdsk /r to detect and repair any file system structural damage.

2, If you are unable to load Windows. Then you should try to access your ntfs partitions by making a ntfs boot disk with NTFS4DOS (freeware). You can download it from http://www.geekswhoknow.com/files/ntfsinst.exe You will need a floppy disk.

After you load the bootable floppy disk onto your damaged system, select either option one (1) or option three (3). If you selected option one (1), type chkdsk /r at the command prompt, and your problem should go away after the disk has been repaired.

Note! Unfortunately there is a chance that your partition is corrupt beyond repair and all of your data is lost. In that case, you need to reformat the partition to be able to use it again.

Additional information can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q228888

Good luck!

Default Re: partition disappeared

atlast i had to repair window installations ,then i am able to login to windows.thanks to all for the help.
but i messed up one partition that is showing as unallocated.
this partition was in extended but there are two unallocated partition showing up one in extended and other is in primary partition.recovering option shows that drive i.e. in good health 100%.
but active partition recovering is giving error
"unable to recover partition because it overlaps with other partition.please define and delete the existing invalid partition"
can i recover that partition from those two unallocated spaces.

one more thing can i convert a primary partition to extended one without losing any data.
thanks in advance.
