i want to connect INTERNET in ubuntu9.10. i am able to ping in my address. i try the pppconfig and use dynamic address. also other things as default but i am not able to connect in ubuntu. also 1 year ago i try ubuntu as timepass and that time i got INTERNET working in first try. i don't know what i am doing wrong. i have bsnl home combo 199 plan. my modem is siemens c2110 (wired). i also tried sudo pon provider. also if somebody have ubuntu + bsnl broadband than please give me some clues about ur pppconfig settings.

What does the Network Manager applet of GNOME say about your wired connection? Does it say connected? (look at top right corner)

If not, Configure eth0 through GNOME network manager manually with the following settings:

IP: 192.168.1.2, Gateway: 192.168.1.1, Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 4.2.2.2

Then re-run pppoeconf through sudo pppoeconf. And then, sudo pon dsl-provider ...

also how to backup & restore these files

^ Fine. Don't use the Unichrome drivers. VIA has actually released official drivers for your onboard graphics.

First do this: sudo apt-get install build-essential
This will install all the necessary packages which one requires for compiling.

Download the driver from here: http://www.viaarena.com/displaydrive...0&SubCatID=109
Extract it and see the instructions.

How To Compile VIA Xorg driver



1. Check your current working directory is XServer, if not change it to be



2. Generate configure file automatically, enter



chmod +x autogen.sh

./autogen.sh



3. Compile VIA Xorg driver, enter



make

also what is mean of NO TARGET like as below

what i do is linux too hard. or even make me able to Compile VIA Xorg driver.

also i try $ gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf but it shows empty xorg.conf.

hi eco i find that latest ubuntu 9.10 comes & use openchrome by default but it uses an old version of it.
and does not provide 3d acceleration. so at least help me to solve this:
wget http://www.openchrome.org/releases/x...-latest.tar.gz
tar xvzf xf86-video-openchrome-latest.tar.gz
cd xf86-video-openchrome-<version number>
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
sudo make install

so tell me what to do.

Leave aside OpenChrome. Try the VIA driver.
