Take the cassette and clean the tape well connect the output of your tape recorder to the computer using an AV cord. Play the cassette. In computer record the signals from line in using a program like Audacity.

Thanks for your input...I did not use Audacity, used one called Wav Pad Sound Editor from NCH... I don't know if this was wrong choice of software, but recording had too much noise, hiss and hum.... I can sure down load Audacity but if you can share some more on this issue it'll be great... since recordingis thru the 'Headfone' outlet of the player and 'Mic' inlet of the laptop, I presume the quality will not be great...

Thanks

I have personally tried it and no interference. But I used Sound forge and a old walkman player and a pretty old cassette. Since u r frm chennai, I will tell u wat cassette it is, it is a compilation of all gaana songs. Now u should know hw the quality wuld be. But I amanaged get a gud output and later increased treble and bass and reduce the noise and the output was awesome.

the best is musicmatch jukebox.. i have almost converted 200 of my cassettee using it (for almost 6 months)..
the software suppresses the hiss and humm... and i recommend it sincerely..

I used Audacity to do this & there was no hiss in the output.
BTW turn off any bass booster or other special audio setting on your cassette player since this tends to add a hiss in the background while recording.

Even I used Jukebox for the same purpose.
But, let me tell you its a very cumbersome task.

To get each song as a diff file either you need to stop recording as soon as the songs ends or you can record whole sides as a file then split it.

I converted two cassettes then stopped due to laziness

But, yeah, jukebox does the job very good.

Long long long ago i remember using Sonic Soundforge with a Panasonic deck to convert Metallica Load , Garage Inc, and Reload. The setup gave excellent quality.
Those were the days...
