Default Re: how to connect lap and desktop?

is ur cat cable in cross mode???
U need 2 config the RJ45 pins in cross mode to connect PC-2-PC

aftr conncting assign samne network ip on both the PC's

eg: 192.168.1.1 for one and 192.168.1.2 for another.
And then try to ping.

Now change the workgroup to MSHOME in both the machines.
Now simply follow the wizard u tried.
It shud work.

A simple connection could be made using a Crossover cable. It costs about 40 INR for a 1meter cable that connects to the Ethernet port of your PC. Once you are done connecting the cable, open LAN Connection properties and change the IP settings just as krishnandu.sarkar said. 192.168.1.1 for one and 1.2 for the other. This would do good if you wish to play multiplayer via LAN. For File Sharing, use the Sharing feature packed with Windows - File/Folder >> Properties >> Sharing.
This would be a cost-effective option for you.
