Default mcafee virus scan 8.0 - problem updating virus definations

i recently got mcafee virus scan 8.0 (av only) and upgraded from version 7.0. even though i have a valid registeration at mcafee's update site, i am unable to update virus definations manually. unlike in version 7.0 where i could download superdat files and update the software and also store it for future i see no option like this in version 8.0.

please help. i want to download the update files and store them too for future ref. can that be done in version 8.0?? or should i shift back to version 7.0?

use another AV like Kaspersky, AVG, Avast or else. McAfee has not so many features like these AVs have.

To manually update the product, you will need an unzipping program (like Winzip from www.winzip.com) to extract the update files. Instructions found below.

Download the dat-43xx.zip file from http://www.nai.com/us/downloads/updates/dat.asp
Disable ActiveShield. (Right click on the McAfee icon by the click, point to VirusScan and click on Disable)
Unzip the following files to the folder C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO
    CLEAN.DAT
    NAMES.DAT
    SCAN.DAT
    Enable ActiveShield.
    VirusScan will now be updated.

    Unzipping files

Double click on the .zip file that you downloaded above.
You will see a list of files that are compressed in the .ZIP file.
Click the 'Extract' button at the top of the WinZIP screen. Select C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO as the folder to save the new files into.Click 'OK' to extract the files into the new directory.
