Virtual PC 2007 - a few queries

1. is there anyway to install software under virtual machine and test them?

2. VPC2007 doesn't support proper identification & configuration of video card (mine is HD4850). will vmware help?

3. my os is xp sp3 (slipstreamed). when i installed xp sp2 (slipstreamed) in VPC2007 with the same product key the virtual os is showing a different product id. why this is so?

VMWare is much more matured than Virtual PC. It may be able to recognize your GPU.

product id depends on the machine id and for virtual pc, the machine id will be difference and hence the product id will be different.

For Ur 1st Question,
I think u can login the Virtual Machine and then u can run the installation within itself and test them

For Ur 2nd Question,
As u will be running in Virtual Environment u will not get whole of the Physical Resources....and Secondly VMware might only be useful for running Aero Effects bu definately not Games in Virtual Machines.

For Ur 3rd Question,
I will second this answer of DesiBond....as the Machine ID is based on one's Hardware Config and there is lot of difference in Virtual and Physical Config and they can't be Same by any means......

u can try connecting thru LAN(virtual) as same way we connect two PCs. And then install from shared folder. I'll also try tht to see it working or not.

Well i haven't tried these before but u need to attach 2 HDD to VM and then load the ISO in Virtual Cd/DVD or use physical drive if u have CD/Dvd in real.....and install it in 1st HDD then once the 1st Operating System is Installed then run the installation for 2nd Operating System and chose the 2nd HDD...I guess it will do dual boot if u r going in ascending order like XP then Vista then Win 7.....

And if u r going to use any of Linux OS then first install all Windows Os and then install Linux OS

I have used Vmware and haven't used Virtual PC before Win 7.....but i guess the steps would be similar.....
U need to open the Properties of the VM while it is offline(shutdown)....and then chose to add another Hardware and then choose HDD and then choose the type of HDD you would like to add like Expanding or Fixed.....
Then specify the Size of new disk and the storage folder in Host PC(Real PC)....

Then i guess u have made it....just boot ur Vm and partion it as u like....

i have used VPC hardly 2-3 times... then i have shifted to vmware... now it has gone soo much advanced that i had never got problem to get VPC installed...
Also ms has too not launched the new version of VPC after 07... i am waiting for that....if new ver. launched i will definitely try it...

but i think that's only possible if your cpu support virtualization and my c2d e7400 don't have that feature.

Yes u r right only if ur Processor Supports then only u can use it....

And secondly I think E7400 supports VT Technology....may be it is Disabled in ur Motherboard.....
