installations taking tooooooooooo long..... please help

no matter what i try to install it takes way too long...... once i click on install, it starts immediately but is stuck at 0% for a long time(20-30mins) then it proceeds at normal speed..... but thats not the case with all the installations
it happens for all the installations which use install shield wizard(and some other installations too) and also for installations of windows updates(though it never proceeds beyond 0% for win update)

Try getting latest Windows Installer
After installing see if the installing gets faster
If not then I think you need to reinstall your OS

i think there is a problem with install shield wizard, as D@rekills4 said try getting latest Windows Installer, which will be found in Microsoft website.
