Default Q's on upgrading to Vista 64bit

ok i am using Vista 32bit and i want to upgrade it to 64bit.
i have some questions regarding it.
-there is no "upgrade" right?only clean install?
-is there anyway i can retain my updates i.e the Windows updates that are common for both the 32 and 64?
-32 bit apps will run fine on 64 bit right?
-will i have to format ALL the drives?
-anything else i should be knowing?

tq

I think you can upgrade. If not, then whats the big deal. You dont have to format all the drives, just the windows drive. If you can upgrade you windows, you will be able to retain your updates. There will be more updates available when you switch on to 64-bit. 32-bit applications runs absolutely fine and i have never seen any application making excuses. Only some system related utilities refuse to run at all but i think thats not the matter of concern as most of them have alternatives. Only thing you should know that there could be some problems with the drivers. Make sure that you have drivers for all your printers and other things. I could not find a sony erricson driver for 64-bit OS and that bother me a lot sometimes.
I would suggest you to upgrade your RAM a bit as the 64-bit OS will eat up more RAM. Rest is fine.

I didnt get the drivers for Sony Erricson k750i
But dont consider this as a negative point. I managed to transfer the files to my mobile from a friend and i am also planning to have a Virtual Machine with my HD upgrade.
64-bit OS are superb i suggest you to go for them.

My suggestion for the upgrade. If you are considering to buy genuine Vista 64-bit OS, give windows 7 64-bit (beta 1) a try first.
