System wont boot.......fdisk wont work.......xp wont install

I AM GOING MADDDDD

I HAVE NO CLUE WHATS WRONG WID MA COMP

when i try to boot.......ma hard disk jus gets stuck after da post.....ders only a blinkin cursor on da screen

i tried startin up wid aa bootable cd.......occasionally detects c:\....but sez bad fat table an dosent run "dir"

i tried installin XP.........sez it needs 330 mb of space.....i had 6GB free on ma c:

i tried fdisk........but ders no partition info.....an sez dat ders no place to create a new volume

tried bootin up wid active@ partition recovery demo........sez dat ders 120 GB of unallocated space

i dunno wass wrong


someonee help meeeee

ma HDD is a segate 120GB barracuda

it gtes detected in da post.......so dont think its a mech failure

Looks like ur partition table has been corrupted!! Boot from th XP CD, and after it loads all drivers etc. press R to go to th recovery console. Type 'fixmbr' at th console. It will write a new Master Boot Record to ur hard disk. If ur boot sector is corrupted, type 'fixboot' also (it has happened to me and I fixed it using one of these cmds, but I don't remember which one or both :roll: ). Try booting from ur HDD now. If it doesn't work, I'm afraid u'll have to do a complete format-reinstall .

Boot from th XP CD. Press any key. After it has finished loading th drivers essential for setup, it will prompt u to install a fresh copy or to repair an existing copy using th recovery console. Press R at this time. It will show u th list of Windows installs on ur hard disk. Press th number corresponding to th install and press enter. It will now ask for th admin password. Enter it (if u did not create an admin pass, just press enter). Now u r at th recovery console... PHEW!!!

Boot with a Win 98 Bootable and start the computer without CD-ROM support and you will get a DOS prompt........

There type in the following code

fdisk /mbr

Note that there is a <space> after fdisk and before /mbr................

This should solve your problem and does no harm at all, unless you have Linux Installed...........

So you should give it a try...............

hmm.......recovery console dint wrk.....coz it cudnt acess da drive....


fdisk /mbr dint do nutin with cd support.......ill try widout.....

neone know ne freeware utilities dat will rebuild my mbr?
coz da disk recovery utilities i tried are able to acess ma disk.....

so i noe it aint a hardware problem.....

but den xp setup keeps sayin dat check if ur hdd is conn an not bein used by third party.....blah....blahh...blahh

afta doin da fdisk /mbr thingy......
alll dat happened is dat instead of a blank screen after da post........
it sez..disk error.....press any key to restart

plus......i downloaded dis freeware app frm www.diydatarecovery.com

mbrtools.exe

it apparantly has da power to mess widd da mbr.....

but i got noo clue wat to doo wid it

ders an option to wipe da mbr clean.......but i dont want to lose ma partition info

Has to be some hardware problem then.................
Sorry dude. But you may have to change the HDD or at least repair it....................
What about giving a last try with Partition Magic??
It is not a freeware but pirated CDs with Partition Magic is common..........

Heck, if everything fails, try formatting ur HDD afresh (u'll lose data but it's better than having a useless comp )

woakaaayy.......

my hard disk is officially dead!!!

i used seagate diskwizard to create one 120gb mega-partition

it detected my old partition data.......but dats not exactly useful

befor i cud even do nethin..........my hdd now does not allow my comp to start

seagate sez.......we dont know wats wrong..........we dont care whats wrong wid ur disk......bring it in.....well give u a new one

my comp starts.....i mn da fans n stuff come on......

but den it goes off before da monitor comes on

i think its a short circuit or sumthin.....

coz if u keep disconnectin an reconectin da molex conn.....

eventually it comes on.......although dats happened only once

an den.......midway thru installin xp......it jus goes off

Man you should've tried Partition Table Doctor. It's a very useful tool. If you haven't formatted already, then make sure you give it a try before you format!
