Exclamation Other software running executables in vista

In the digit issue of November '08, in QnA, there was mentioned a way to solve the problem if executables are being run using a program, Nero Backitup in the QnA.
The Solution was:
1. Go to My Computer
2. Click on Tools in the menu bar
3. Click on Folder options
4. Click on the File Types tab
5. In Registered file types, select extension EXE.
Look at the type of associated program and see
that it is Nero Backitup.
6. Select extension and click on delete.
7. Restart your computer

But that works in XP. In Vista, there isn't a tab called File Types in Folder Options. In Vista, I couldn't find an option to delete a specific extension (Step 6 above). How do I solve such a problem in Vista?

That feature was removed in Vista as Vista does not have the old explorer. Try this instead: Go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations. Try finding .exe extension there.

I hope this helps,

No. I'd checked there. No .exe present there. Could you suggest something else?

Yes, use the ultimate option. The Registry Editor. Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and search for '.exe' folder(There should be a key there pointing it to exefile) Search for any keys related to Nero BackItUp in the folder. Also, scroll down and you should find the 'exefile' folder (while still in HKEY_CLASSES ROOT) and search for Nero BackItUp related entries again and delete. After this, reboot.

Cheerio!
