I am using windows vista and when i switch on the pc then there is a screen with options-
Older version of windows
Windows vista
How do i remove the first option. I want vista to load directly.

You need Your vista DVD to do sO:
1. Boot from DVD
2. choose repair option and then choose Dos Prompt from the list.
3. A DOS prompt appears, and type the following:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr

This will essentially remove XP from the Vista bootloader

bootrec.exe /fixboot

This will check that XP is no longer present in Vista's boot.ini
Restart.

NO NEED OF DOING THE ABOVE COMPLEXITY!!!!
here is a simple way to do!

1)Note that if you are using Windows Vista as one of the operating systems, you will need to make this change from Vista, not XP.
2)First, you'll need to right click on Computer and select Properties:
3)Next, click Advanced System Settings
4)Now click on the Settings button under Startup and Recovery
5)And just select the operating system you want to use

You could also use the "bcdedit command" to do the same thing from the command line, but it's probably easier this way.

Any idea if the other way round is possible...i have installed ubuntu 8.10 using the option "install inside windows"...the installation was complete without any problem but whn i restart my pc i'am unable to see the dual boot option...for more info abt the problem chk this

I dont think that the method i have mentioned is too complex.
if booting from CD/DVD and running particular command is so tough than:
Then we must leave to operate computer.
There are many ways to do any task.
By the way your method is also good.
