Best Antivirus for which virus definitions can be downloaded

I know this question would have been asked several times, but I would like to know an Antivirus for which we can get definitions that can be downloaded. My friend doesn't have a net connection so can I download virus definitions from my PC and later have them installed on his machine. I remember long back I used to do the same with Norton and Mcafee. Please help!

You can use Avast HOME edition 4.8. It is good in detectin and you can download its definitins also.

You can still download offline updates for Norton and McAfee.

i checked norton internet security 2009. Many Many times better than the previous versions and really light on system. No requirement of any other application like adaware and spybot which i was using so far. If u intend to purchase it , the cost is too less somewhere rs 1500.
