Please help me urgent

Hi frnds, one of my friend was working well on his pc, then electricity gone, and his pc shut down unexpectedly. After half and hour he re-started it. Then there an strange problem, its working well but not opening another drive than C, I also checked registry but when I typed regedit... its giving “registry editing disabled by the administrator” and one thing to mention here that when I try to open all drives in windows explorer, then can open but there are double folder names. We want to open these in normal form, then I also re installed windows xp but nothing changed.


So please suggest me what can we do now,

The drive structure may be corrupted so run a chkdsk on each drive

Go to run->cmd->chkdsk c:
Repeat this step to other drives by replacing C:\ with other letters

if the problem does not solves then there may be autorun virus
Auto run virus. just enable show all files including the hidden and system files and delete the entry in the root of each drive autorun.inf

• ATTRIB -H -R -S C:\AUTORUN.INF - unhides the hidden file autorun.inf
• DEL C:\AUTORUN.INF
• Repeat this step to other drives by replacing C:\ with other letters

And for future security install the usb disk security
