Problem with windows explorer please help!!!

gigabyte motherboard
windows xp sp2(genuine)
norton 2009 gaming edition
Problem
2 days ago i bought norton 2009 gaming edition from their website and scanned my pc as this was my first anti virus program so it caught a lot of viruses in my system 250 or so and removed them.after this i restarted the pc and now whenever i right click on the explorer or try copying a file, the explorer hangs for 5 mins and then displays the drop down menu.rest of the system works just fine when this happens songs videos and games also run fine but not the explorer.also after i rebooted many programs have stopped running as norton removed there executables from their installation folders so is there a way by which norton would heal the files and not just delete them???
please help in real problem.will be very thankfull to anyone who helps.

Do a fresh install of windows. 250 viruses can surely leave their mark, even when removed. XP install takes 30 minutes, and installing other software take like 30 mins more. Your comp will be ready in an hour. Get yourself some popcorn, and sit thro the whole thing
