Default slow shutdown in xp with service pack 2


how could you find what programs are running during the time of shutdown? since it takes ages to shutdown .....
i have a 512 mb ddr ram xp with service pack2
it really takes around 5 MINUTES to shutdown any solution???
and i use norton 2005

REMOVE norton 2005 and use avast ur problem will be solved <<-- around 30 odd seconds!!!! or EVEN PC-CILIN 2005 !! <- it will become a bit better then now like about 1min 45 seconds!!!

may be u have used a Tweaking software which clears pagefile and cache during shutdown, this also increases the shutdown time considerably.

norton starts a lot of services, and takes a lot of time to shut them off. ya, u could switch over to avast or avg which i think are anyway more effective !

it would be better if you shut off some unnecessary xp services, as services take time to shutoff.

also make sure you are not clearing the page file at every shut off. this consumes time.

control your start-ups, and remove those which are not really required by you.

use tune-up utilities. its good and will help you : www.tune-up.com

it tells you how to make xp start/shutdown faster.

i have winxp sp2 on a 128mb ram. try the above, and you will find your pc shutting down faster.

try regscrubxp heard lot of good things about it...

also try Shutdown Event tracker to see whats taking so much time....also see This to deal with End Hung Applications...

presently im on my p3 128+32mb ram my amd is being assembled by me !!
and wix xp wit sp2 i working fast n perfect
like 45 seconds startup n 35-50 second finish !!!
