Knowing the Web server of a site

I think this is a noob question for all the geeks out there. So, sorry to bother you for this.

How can we know which web server a website is using? Is there any online service for this or so?

You can use this - http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph - which will show the details.

What do mean by 'web server'? Do you want to know the operating system, server software, etc?

If yes, then you can lookup the headers!
