Unhappy I think my PC is has virus

My comp:
Core2Duo 2gb ram, Windows Xp SP3. I have Windows Ultimate too...

I tried to install ubuntu via a USB pen drive and I forgot to check for viruses in the USB.

I tried to boot it... But it did not work. Then when I was working on my Xp my avast gave a warning that I have a virus in my C: drive (0o.com or something) I tried to remove it. But Avast recommended me to restart the comp and run scan on boot...

Later for I couldn't shut down the PC. Again when I scanned using avast it showed the same virus mentioned above??

What to do??

Go scan with: http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

Update the definition file. If you have fast connection than go for online kaspersky scan: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

or

Download kaspersky trialware from here: http://www.kaspersky.com/homeuser

Update it.

Always remember post the exact error what you get, this helps in sorting out your problem in a better way

cheers!!

Have you saved this text in a file and copy pasted it whenever the need be?
@Thread Starter
Post a HijackThis log

Do a complete system scan with avast! It should detect the infection

Otherwise visit the thread below for using an AV other than avast to remove the infection:
http://thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94072

Also, scan your PC for malware, spyware, etc either by the software mrintech has given or any of the following:
(download it install it , update the definitions and then scan)
Ad-Aware 2008
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/
Spybot S&D
http://www.filehippo.com/download_sp...earch_destroy/

^^These can't help! The famous 0w.com virus can't be permanently deleted(Or so it is fabled!). Do post a Hijack this log. You know what is hijack this, don't you?

Here is an alternative:-
Try deleting the file using some free linux live CD. This won't activate the virus and it will be deleted! The problem is to find a linux which is able to read from NTFS partitions. Try SLAX linux 5.1.6. It allows write support for NTFS too! It was provided sometime with digit. You should always keep a copy of those handy!(Like me!)

ClamAV will do the job. You might get stuck with it if in Xp normal mode. Try using safe mode deep scan. I suggest you to use spywareterminator which has integration for calmav .Download and install it and run a full virus and spyware scan .
