Default Xp fails copying large amount of data

IT seems either some bottleneck is happening or I have something setup wrong.
I am formatting hence need to move over 500gb data to a new HDD

I tried copying 50gb data Xp pro SP2 says "preparing to copy" then remains hanged then gives error cant copy. I have to move much smaller 1-2gb data then it works.

Is there anything which I have set it wrong which is causing this error. Whenever I need to move 40-50gb data I have always found this to be a problem, can someone tell me the problem.

Not very sure, but make external hard disk in NTFS system, and your problem should be solved. FAT system has limitation of 4GB.

all my hdd external or internal are formated as NTFS so there seems to be some other issue.

I found a better utility to copy/sync files, the trial version gives 30 days & it does more than what I needed.
