Default Suggest a good converter

Hi Friends,
Yesterday I recorded a TV program which is nearly about 6 : 34 minutes and the size is 485MB Its a mpeg2 file format. After recording a 4 - 5 such clips their size reaches above the DVD. And also if we play that files on another PC then it is not working. So guys can anyone suggest me a good converter which can convert the files into a compressed format without spoiling the quality.

Thanks
Varad

I use VidCrop PRO with Divx codec for converting my video and flash files. You can try it too.
