Unhappy Weird Win Vista startup problem

I have Dell XPS M1530 system with the following config
Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz (T8300) , 3GB RAM, 250 GB (5400rpm) HDD and Win Vista Home Premium on 2 partitions C: and D:

2-3 days back a weird problem has started, as soon as the comp boots on the Win vista home pre on C: , the Win Logo appear with its characterstic music , welcome screen too appears but then I see a blank screen with only the mouse pointer visible. It stays in this condition with no HDD activity for 2-3 minutes and only then the HDD activity starts and the desktop appears.

Win Vista on the D: gives no such problem.

What should I do???

Do the basics...

Do a virus and spyware scan..
Remove unwanted program from msconfig. .

Do you have Zonealarm?
