Connecting mp3 player to speakers

Hello.I would like to know how to connect an mp3 player to a 4.1 speaker system.I own a Creative Zen and would like to connect it Creative Inspire 4.1.Is it possible?Also tell me if I'd require an amp or something.

why? Most systems have a way of connecting stereo inputs as well. If not, then I have seen converters retailing for 100 rs.

U could do it, once I connected my W810i with my Logitech X540 which is a 5.1.
Just look out if the woofer jack is supported by the MP3 player, if not u may need to search for a converter.

But connection ur MP3 palyer with a 4.1 is not good idea, it drasins out the battery very much.
u must have seen iPods do that, but they have speakers dedicatedly made for iPod.

Technically its not possible to connect a device with stereo o/p with a 4.1 set. What you can do is get a splitter that looks like this:

This will work provided the speakers are analog and not digital (I guess the speaker set you mentioned don't haf optical connectors). This way the front channel will be mirrored to the rear and sound output will be obtained from all the speakers. This setup is called pseudo-surround where the front and rear o/p are mirrored.

The Zen is powerful enuf to drive these active speakers. You don't require an amp.
