Pple,

Is It Possible To Send Messages Thru Lan Knowing The Ip Address And The Port Number Of The System????? I Am Workin On A Project...... I Need Ur Help Regarding This.........

yes, it's possible
In case of windows xp you can use "net send". Only ip address is required for this.

^^ thats the easiest way. But ensure that you have enabled the messenger service from services.msc

I think the Apple Bonjour Service do that thing quite efficiently. Also there are some real good tools in linux too; for example Avahi in GNOME.

If u are sticking with Windows then use the previous methods told here. Or u can install Bonjour for Windows from Apple.
