Question Finding out free port number

Hi....I need to find out a free port on the server to which my system is connected, in my office....Plz help

And there's prolly nmap for windows. Or you can use nmap-online.org

he wants to find out which ports are open in the server that he is connecting to.... not in his PC I dunno what genuine intent is there for this port sniffing

Well, a person who doesn't have enough knowledge to find the required tools shouldn't be able to do any real harm. If he can then the person in charge has way more serious problems coming his/her way.
And if he's trying to use alternate ports to run blocked services, an alert network admin can pick it up and ban it.

no....its not like that....i want to access certain online things like online radio.....we r connecting to the network through a proxy server and these applications require the port number to connect........auto detect proxy settings is not working.....

you need to know the details of the proxy server and you may be able to specify option for proxy server in the applications that you need...

if you can say the specific applications we might figure out how....

I know proxy server .pac file address.....i was asking that is there any tool or command to find out a free port ....
