FAQ and Posting Guidelines for new members
Welcome to TDF.
Before continuing, I hope you have read FORUM RULES.
Ques: I can't post. It says permission denied or something?
What's happening?
Ans: There can be two reasons:
1) You have not activated your account with the activation e-mail.
Or
2) You are trying to post in the Bazaar section.
For 1) - you need to check your e-mail inbox. Check Spam folders too. If you didn't receive it, then change your e-mail by clicking here. You will receive a new activation code in your new e-mail ID. If you still didn't receive it, then send a private message to me.
For 2) - you need to have 10 posts first to post in the Bazaar section.
Ques: I am able to post but why are my posts not appearing. It says it goes into moderation and some other things??
Ans: The first 5 posts of new members are manually moderated by the moderators. This is to prevent spam and advertisements. In addition to this, we are not going to approve questions already answered in sticky threads and questions not conforming to the "thread starting" guidelines of each section. Search before you start a new thread.
It might take a while before we approve them because we too have lives and jobs. But don't worry, it doesn't take much time. At max 30 minutes.
If you think it has been quite a while since you posted and your post was not approved, please drop a private message to any moderator (green colour) you see online. Online members at any given time can be viewed in the forum index page, at the very bottom.
If any of your first 5 posts is looking like an advertisement, you are risking a ban. Just make 5 sensible posts and then you have a complete pass to our forums.
Ques: I can't add an avatar and a signature?? Why??
Ans: You'll be able to do so after you reach 5 posts.
Ques: I have a post count of more than 10. Everything was going fine with me, but suddenly my post went for moderator approval? What did I do?
Ans: It was a false positive by the forum's anti-spam system. Usually because your post contained a link which the anti-spam system perceived as spam. Nothing to worry about, moderators will approve it.
Ques: The advertisements especially on the right are really bad. How can I disable them?
Ans: New members will get advertisements. If you'll be active for quite some time and post regularly, 90% of the advertisements will get disabled for you. One or two banners are there for active members and even for me. We have to deal with it. Because advertisements fund this forum.
Ques: omg, so many sections where should I create a thread?? Everywhere!!1??
Ans: No. Post in the appropriate section only. Read the forum index page and description of each section properly before posting.
Some individual sections like Bazaar have their own rules and guidelines. Read the threads stuck on top before posting. Some sections have basic information threads stuck on top. Read them too before posting. Usually most Captain Obvious queries are already answered in those.
Now, if you are buying a processor, motherboard, graphic card, cabinet and power supply i.e. a whole new system, this doesn't mean that you are going to create 5 threads with one thread in every section we have. Just create one thread PC Configurations section. It is enough. Also note, the PC Configurations section is a strictly buying advice section. News and troubleshooting should NOT go there.
If you have a generic query/problem or you are buying only a couple of things like only CPU + Motherboard combo, then you should ideally post in CPU / Motherboards section or any other section which suites. If you want to buy a speaker set, post in the Audio section and so on.
Posting in the right section is important. Information should be at the proper place to receive proper answers.AMD A8-3870K with Radeon HD 6550D | Digilite A55M (Foxconn)
