Frog marriage to please 'rain god'Udupi, July 16: The Zilla Nagarika Samiti, on Tuesday evening organised a wedding ceremony of frogs, near Service Bus Stand here to please the rain god' From Diana Circle, two frogs were brought to Clock Tower Circle, in a decorated pull cart, in a grand procession.

The wedding was marked by wearing toe rings, Mangala Suthra and exchanging garlands by the frog couple.

Speaking to the media, Samiti general secretary Nithyananda Volakad, who is also a councillor of the Udupi City Muncipal Council said: "By this time, rain should have poured heavily. People of the district especially farmers have been suffering due to want of sufficient as rains. So we organised the frog marriage to please the rain god. We hope it will pour soon." As it was an unusual ceremony in the Coastal Karnataka, some termed it publicity gimmick by the organisers. Many objected the torturing of frogs.

At one stage, traffic was also diverted to ease the movement of frog procession.

seems the norm in tamilnadu ,karnataka and all! if no rain ,some will organize something like these to marry off donkeys,frogs and what not?

Its raining like crazy in delhi this season, probably all the good frogs from south have eloped to delhi.
they shld pollute their rivers like delhiites pollute yamuna to encourage those eloped froms to come back home ..

in tamilnadu/karnataka/andhra ,we can see the pics of two donkeys or two fox etc looking at each other. in tamil ,it reads "Adhrushtha Mrugangal"
they are mounted on the walls for good luck.
