Female students face more cyber bullying

A study in Australia has found that female students have higher risk of being bullied on the Internet.


The study looked at 518 female students and found that 31 percent were bullied online this year. Most of the victims were aged between 12 and 15.

Cyber bullying is described as worse than face-to-face bullying because it has no geographical boundaries and involves the power of the written word. It has now entered the home environment through email, websites and mobiles, reported health portal Medical News Today.

Marilyn Campbell, psychologist and study author, said: "Victims often think they are to blame. Common thoughts are 'Why would they pick on me?' or 'What is wrong with me?'

"We need to teach students that it's the bullies who need to change their behavior, not the victims."

Clear anti-bullying policies and procedures are needed in schools to reduce bullying, the researcher said.

Campbell will present the study at the 42nd Australian Psychological Society national conference, Psychology Making an Impact, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center from Sep 25 to 29.

Trust me, a gal & guy can never be just friends. Infatuation, crush & love always comes in between. It is very very hard to keep it till friendship only...personal experience here.

yup,behind the safety of their monitor,everyone feels secure in typing out things they normally wouldn't dare to say in real life.

This is when I turn it to Cofee (Refer to Pyaar ke side effect for real meaning )

Orkut for example is good place to meet, but I prefer to bring friendship to real life which many gals were once scared of but now they are not however they forget the difference between reel & real life due to which they reveal a lot online resulting in weird stuff we hear in TV etc. Gals get frank with anyone which is wrong, & then they cry when some guy puts her pic on his profile.

Making friends in real life is always better, but just that due to restriction from family or society gals & guys don't approach much in real life, something i learned long back. Those who know how to do it in real life excel the most.

But then females can't be always blamed. Many of them may be very conservative in real life but open up sitting in front of their monitors. Many relationships (best frenz, gf-bf etc.) haf been forged like this. Again as wid most things the Internet is a double edged sword.
