I have seen, most of terms & conditions say, Not to be used in softwares developed, I just want to know, if I modify this png files and then use in my application, is there any way by which author can proove I have used his icons.
I will not copy or use original files, I want to modify original as per my requirement and use.

i suppose by free it means you can use it as it is even without changing.

no, they say on site as free then, in license.txt they write, free for personal use, not to be used in any commercial applications or applications developed by you. I dont understand, why they say it first free and then put this conditions...

Can you tell which particular site you are referring to?
Ya..most sites do offer free icons but not for commercial use.
