India to stage F1 race in 2009

India have finally been awarded a Formula One Grand Prix race after years of trying to join the F1 fraternity.

The announcement made on Thursday by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi, came after months of speculation and will be held from 2009.

"We have received a letter in this regard from Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula One. The IOA will be the promoter, the first event of which will be held in 2009," he told a news conference.

The race, which will be held in New Delhi is conditional and subject to a suitable venue being built.

Espnstar.com learnt that a street circuit is the most popular and viable option currently being explored into.

Coooool...If it is finally does happen...Though I still doubt how much is thegovernment is interested in staging it...except for Vijay Mallaya who seems to be showing a lot of interest in it...
One thing assured...If it does happen I will surely be one of crowd watching it live no matter how much money or struggle I have to do for it

this means we have not been awarded yet.
we still haven't finalized the place nor do we have land for building track.
and IOC will have to bear all the expenditure (what's the amount reserved in sports budget?).

but still i hope this deal comes through.

Monaco's road are made of really high quality materials, but same cant be said about Delhi's road (thank the politicians, road... dept.'s corruption).

so if its a street track, they've to re-bulid the road. & that too in 2 years is un-imaginable

(thank the money hungry officials , again)

roads around india gate are the best u can see in india. (apart from some portions of jaipur-delhi highwaY)

I don't think India can able to host 2009 F1.
They first hav make funds for commonwealth games 2010 which will confirmly held.

If the F1 is being held in Delhi then it will slow down the progress of commonwealth games. And personally I dont think that the India will be ready for the commonwealth till 2010 and now they're talking about F1, and that too at the same location. Looks impossible. The road conditions are pathetic, cars are gonna break up in zillion pieces and drivers are gonna get killed. And talk about where is the traffic going to be diverted the whole time when the track is being readied!! The delhiwaasi already face lots of jam due to metro, and now this F1 track. India is being India right now!!!
