New Delhi, April 22: Bogged down by internal and external security threats, India could revert to its pre-independence territories if divisive trends are not firmly arrested and reversed, a defence analyst has said.

Naxalism and insurgency affected "more than 40 per cent" of India's territory, while psychological fragmentation over language, religion, caste or region had spread due to vote- bank politics, "resulting in overwhelming regional pressures in determining our foreign policy", Capt (retired) Bharat Verma said in an editorial in Indian Defence Review.

Painting a grim picture of the security situation in and around the country, he said the writ of state governments were being "rolled back towards their respective state capitals by Naxalites" while the entire land border was facing different threats.

"Despite India's pretensions of an emerging great power, its influence is shrinking -- both internally as well as on its external periphery," he said.

Without an influence over 40% of her own lands, what kind of a superpower India is going to be?

Some States in India are bigger than some of the countries in Europe.
Remaining 60% of the land with Indians is enough for her to Make it a Super Power.

Really , India is eventually bound to be Super Power.

so u think best resort is to dis integrate India as pre-independence.Five north indians states will then also remain as India,u know those states.Tamil nadu will be another country,so is Andhra etc.

You got it all wrong. The obvious alienation is because of the current socio-political system and the government's inability to do anything. What I want is to change the current pseudo-democratic government with a benevolent powerful leadership, capable of dealing with not only with exterior, but interior issues alike. Rest assured, watching the country get partitioned again would be the last thing on my mind.

The facts lies in Demographies. From where are these so called liberation coming.From Economic backward states and one having influence of Socialism.
I dont see people in Maharashtra or for that other economic states resorting to arms.
The thing is at the End of what socialism advocates there lies mass murders and resorting to Arms .Why dont people acct the fact that it is human nature to progress and seek economic gains.
If most people in India start getting more educated and follow neo-capatilism then i think India has fair chances of saving itself.
Infact most of the states that are developing in India are following the Capitalism charts and the changes can already be seen.
The only thing that stops india from fighting Terror is that there is a mass party rule some of whom indirectly supports those.
We defiantly need Democracy.But a united one where there are no regional differences to hinder the decision making powers.
