Angry Gunman kills at least 21 at Virginia Tech

Gunman kills at least 21 at Virginia Tech

A lone gunman killed at least 21 people before he was killed during twin shootings on the Virginia Tech campus, the deadliest school attacks in United States history, CNN reports.
"Some victims were shot in a classroom," it said, quoting the University police Chief Wendell Flinchum.
The Washington Post reported that at least 32 people were killed, and that the unidentified shooter was among those dead.
More than 24 others were injured in shooting spree at two buildings on the Blacksburg campus, it said, quoting sources.
The Los Angeles Times also said that the gunman was killed, but it said it's unclear if he was shot by police or himself.
The New York Times said there were two shootings on the campus in Blacksburg, Va., and in each case there were fatalities with multiple shooting victims.

The result of conservative gun control laws and a gun and bomb culture.

I wonder they have not yet blamed computer games for this incident.

They may do that once the news take a backseat.

And the arms are so easily available in the US that people play death games (manhunt) on streets.

ALthough the incident was horrible, I was watching on Star News (the hindi version) and they were waffling on about how all American families are disturbed and how all Americans are divorced and they are all immoral...acting like a bloody hindi movie! Very unprofessional!

All hindi news channel are like that; they want gossip. NDTV english is much much better then its hindi counterpart.
And someone should tell the Star News that the massacre was done by a "lonely" korean so theres no need to pinpoint the finger at the american culture; these guys hve lost their children but our people want news .
At least they dont keep on fingering in other peoples matter like the Most of the Indian People do, like burning the effigies of anyone and everyone without even knowing the issue.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/ame...6563565.stm?ls

The emergency services were called after 1st shooting some two hours before the 2nd shooting took place. what were they doing for 2 hours?
the university had sent emails to students

Also the amount of surveillance and authoritarianism is useless as the inputs and leads given are not looked into.

Somehow their documentaries about the incidents are better than the actual investigations at the time of incident

Well now the video game is blamed for this game. Yes CouterStrike is to be blamed for the attack. For more look below :-

Counter-Strike Linked to VT Shootings? - Washington Post has an article that details the life of the "eccentric loner" that carried out yesterday's shooting at Virgina Tech. Most notable is how they casually mention how he played Counter-Strike. Note: It seems as though, immediately after this quote was taken from the article, the Washington Post decided to remove this paragraph and others. However, this article will remain: Several Korean youths who knew Cho Seung Hui from his high school days said he was a fan of violent video games, particularly Counterstrike[sic], a hugely popular online game, in which players join terrorism or counterterrorism[sic] groups and try to shoot each other using all types of guns. // In other news, Game Almighty received an email from Jack Thompson, which included an open letter sent to Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, wherein he attacks Counter-Strike and demands its online servers be brought down.

It is wrong to entirely put the blame on laxity of gun laws. The Constitution of America, specifically 44 out of the 50 State Constitutions, allow the possession of a firearm. There are 200 million firearms in America right now within civilian circles and around 30,000 firearm related deaths every year - mostly attributed to gang wars.

Stronger background profiling will eliminate the risk of putting a firearm in the wrong hands, sure. But there's no predicting what a mad man may or may not do. If the gunman hadn't had a firearm, he'd have probably researched the makings of a bomb from the internet and still tried to harm people no matter what.
