Bag lost in transit, Spice Jet to compensate

The District Consumer Disputes Redresal Forum has directed Spice Jet Airlines to pay Rs 30,000 as compensation for mental agony caused to a passenger whose baggage was lost in transit. The airline has also been directed to pay Rs 3,000 as cost of the bag in addition to Rs 5,000 as litigation charges.
The complainant, Rohini Chadha, a resident of Sector 8, said she booked two return tickets on a Spice Jet Flight from Chandigarh to Mumbai, with the journey from Mumbai scheduled on January 27, 2007.
Four bags were handed over to the flight officials at the Mumbai airport for delivery at Delhi. According to the complainant, on arrival of the flight at Delhi, only three bags were delivered to her.
After learning of the matter, the authorities assured Rohini that the missing bag would be delivered at her Chandigarh address.
The airlines, however, later informed her that the bag has been lost and a cheque of Rs 1,900 would be given to her as compensation.
The complainant, however, refused to accept the same claiming the bag contained goods worth over Rs 50,000. Aggrieved, she moved the consumer forum.
In its reply, Spice Jet argued that as per their terms and conditions, the carrier's liability for loss of baggage is limited to Rs 200 per kg, with a maximum limit of Rs 3,000. As the bag in question weighed 9.5 kg, a cheque of Rs 1,900 was issued in her name, claimed the airlines.
Headed by president Lakshman Sharma, the forum ruled that there is force in the plea of the complainant as she suffered mental agony and harassment due to loss of baggage and was, therefore, entitled to receiving compensation for mental agony and harassment.

WTF... Rs.200/kg.. so say if I have various electronic stuff weighing more than 5 kg all I would get is Rs.1000 for goods worth more than 1lac!! This is insane man.. Seriously, airlines in India sucks!
