Default New element named 'copernicium'

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8153596.stm

Discovered 13 years ago, and officially added to the periodic table just weeks ago, element 112 finally has a name.

It will be called "copernicium", with the symbol Cp, in honour of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.

Copernicus deduced that the planets revolved around the Sun, and finally refuted the belief that the Earth was the centre of the Universe.

The team of scientists who discovered the element chose the name to honour the man who "changed our world view".

I always wanted to ask this to a science student... "do scientists find these elements or do they make them or something in the lab"?

^^
AFAIK, all naturally occuring elements are already discovered (ie. till Uranium in the periodic table).
Beyond that, scientist perform controlled nuclear reactions and create/observe new matter. Most of these artificial compounds exist for less than 1/1000th times a sec.
