Default Sibal plans to scrap 'traumatic' Class 10 Board exams

Quote:
Sibal told The Indian Express: "The Indian education system which is marks-centered and examination-based is a source of trauma for both parents and children... knowledge, like everything else, should be user-friendly, and the acquisition of knowledge should not be a stressful exercise."
I agree; I think 10th and 12th exam takes a serious toll on average and below average students. They get frustrated and disgruntled with career very early in life. Doing away with 10th exam is a step in right direction. Kudos to Sibal!!!

But then what will motivate students to study, not all study because they want to, some have to be whipped up good and put under pressure to get the work done. Mellowing down the education system of India will only deteriorate the already de-grading situation of education system in India. Looks like Congress wants to really phuck up our education system and standards which even Americans fear of. Last time they bumped up the the Quota and now this $hit.

The point is class 10th's stress is too early for a child. Putting pressure during board exam has not yielded any result in last 60 years. Its time for a more evolved education system which encourages learning rather than beating it down someone's throat. To some extent our education system has made India a sweatshop of the world. It has curtailed innovation...

Scrap Clasx XII board exams for Science students. They are nothing more than distraction for Science students.

I think it is a good move. But also need to make sure the students study seriously. Like if they think - there are no exams, so why should I study - then it will become worse.

+1
well,
since time immemorial i v been hearing this.... people saying it puts pressure on kids.
well my simple question. how long will kids be kids? is there any job in the world where you are not under pressure?
people will argue that the exams should be scrapped and students should be graded based on their daily performance at school.
my opinion ... easier said than done.!!
who will grade the students? school teachers? can this not be rigged?
my opinion ... pretty easily...
does this bring in a level playing field for lakhs of students who appear for class 10?
NO WAY...
how will you decide on who gets into prestigious institutes for class XI and who gets into your neighbourhood class XI junior college, (considering there are far fewer junior colleges than no. of schools in the country).

i m not against innovative ideas, but in this case i dont see any.
