The subject of Wikipedia's reliability is making the headlines again.

A sociology student decided to highlight how reliant reporters are on Wikipedia and the potential dangers of doing this.

When a French composer passed away, the student quickly inserted a hoax quotation on the composer's Wikipedia page. As predicted by the student, publishers went to the Wikipedia page, did not verify its accuracy, and the hoax quotation appeared in publications all over the world.

Yes, Wikipedia is maintained by millions of people around the world and if a small un-noticeable or un-verifiable piece of data is added, people will not suspect it.

I do not think it is a 'Weakness' of Wikipedia. That is how it works. It is by the people, for the people. If someone decide to conduct a test like this, in most cases it will go through. If someone want to do vandalism, if it is serious and noticable, it will get corrected within moments. Wikipedia work like that. Instead, the person using Wikipedia should know that it is not the ultimate thing and there is chances of wrong information. Especially people who think Wikipedia = Encyclopedia.
