A top New Zealand telecommunications company has hired a teenager who admitted to taking part in an international cyber-crime network.

TelstraClear said former hacker Owen Thor Walker was advising corporate customers on internet crime.

Don't call him a hacker. The right term for computer experts who use their knowledge for illegal activities is a cracker

Well, the differentiation of the terms based on the moral denominator of the actions has become redundant, so he can very well be termed a hacker.

Hacker is so commonly used that very less people know the difference between hacking and cracking...

There IS a strong difference between the terms. A cracker is a type of hacker. A cracker is to hacker what thief is to human. I hope you understand how dumb it sounds when you say "New Zealand company hires hacker". Its like saying "Police hires human" when the actual situation is that the police hired a theaf to go undercover.
