Default Java Updates necessary?

I have downloaded the latest version of Java JDK 1.6 with update 7.
Now do I need to keep older updates (update 5 and 6)??
Or can I delete them?

No need to delete any just install the updates. if the program finds itself to replace/uninstall the older module than it will automatically do it

Well i hv deleted the older updates and Java works fine for me (on netbeans)

as i was short of space on C drive so deleting those older updates (200-350 MB) proved beneficial for my c Drive..
