Default Hard disk problem

My friend has brought Dell 1525 last week, This laptop has 160gb HDD. Yesterday, he tries to do partition of 150gb C Drive using partition and every thing went wrong. After restart of the system, he found that system is not able to boot. he inserted vista disc and checked that C drive has been deleted and it shows unallocated memory. However the other drive which is recovery disc was not there and it shows no 10gb memory there. Now i need help from you guys to recover that 10gb space. I tried to recover from Gparted using ubuntu live CD but it shows only 150gb HDD. Please help me.

A hard disk advertised by hardware vendor as 160GB one will be shown as 149GB one when you check it using your OS because hardware vendors take 1KB = 1000B while softwares use 1KB=1024B
